NUEPA - National University of Educational Planning and Administration

Historical Background

NUEPA was established in 1962 as the UNESCO Asian Centre of Educational Planners, Administrators, and Supervisors. It evolved through several stages—becoming the Asian Institute of Educational Planning and Administration in 1965, the National Staff College for Educational Planners and Administration in 1973, and finally the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in 1979. In 2006, NIEPA was upgraded to a university, and it was renamed the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA).

Objectives of NUEPA

  • To organize pre-service and in-service training programs in educational planning, administration, and allied disciplines.
  • To promote and coordinate research on educational planning and administration in India and abroad.
  • To provide academic and professional guidance to institutions and personnel engaged in educational planning and administration.
  • To offer M. Phil, Ph.D., and postdoctoral programs in various educational fields such as planning, finance, administration, and higher education.
  • To act as a clearinghouse of ideas and information on research, training, and extension programs in educational planning and administration.
  • To publish papers, periodicals, and journals on educational planning and administration.
  • To organize conferences, seminars, workshops, and meetings for educational personnel of central and state governments.
  • To provide consultancy services to governments and institutions, both domestic and international.
  • To collaborate with other educational institutions and agencies for promoting education, policy research, and capacity building.
  • To provide fellowships, scholarships, and academic awards to promote educational research and development.

Departments of NUEPA

  • Department of Educational Planning: Integrates planning at all levels of education and promotes decentralization and local-level planning techniques.
  • Department of Educational Finance: Focuses on the economic and financial aspects of education, including public and private financing.
  • Department of School and Non-Formal Education: Researches critical issues related to school education, non-formal education, and adult literacy.
  • Department of Educational Management Information System (EMIS): Strengthens the data management system in education through initiatives like the District Information System for Education (DISE).
  • Department of Educational Administration: Provides training and research in educational management and resource planning.
  • Department of Educational Policy: Focuses on research, training, and policy dissemination in educational governance and development.
  • Department of Higher and Professional Education: Provides research support and policy advice to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
  • Department of Training and Capacity Building in Education: Expands training programs and initiatives for capacity building in educational policy and planning.

Other Activities of NUEPA
