Key Targets of NCFSE 2023

Transforming Education in India with Defined Timelines

2026-27

Universal Foundational Literacy and Numeracy

Achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy for all students in Grades 1-3 to ensure they can read with comprehension and perform basic arithmetic by Grade 3.

2023-2028

Holistic and Competency-Based Education

Transition to a holistic and competency-based education system, integrating multidisciplinary learning across all grades.

2025

Universal Access to Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)

Ensure access to quality ECCE for all children aged 3-6 years, focusing on age-appropriate curriculum and pedagogy for the Foundational Stage (ages 3-8).

2023-2028

Assessment and Examination Reforms

Implement competency-based assessments and reform board exams to focus on core concepts and competencies rather than memorization.

2025-2030

Multilingualism and Language Proficiency

Ensure proficiency in three languages by Grade 10, with at least two being Indian languages. Promote learning in the mother tongue up to at least Grade 5 and preferably till Grade 8.

Strengthening Teacher Education and Professional Development

Empower teachers through continuous professional development (CPD) to adopt innovative pedagogical practices.

Integration of Vocational Education

Integrate vocational education into the curriculum from Grades 6-12, aligning with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF).

Integrate environmental education throughout the school curriculum and develop sustainability practices.

Inclusion and Equity in Education

Achieve full inclusion and equitable access to education for all children, including those from socio-economically disadvantaged groups (SEDGs) and children with disabilities.

Integration of Educational Technology

Incorporate digital tools and resources into teaching and learning processes to enhance learning experiences.
