impotance of peace education


 IMPORTANCE OF PEACE EDUCATION 

1.     Upholding Human Dignity

Education that seeks to uphold human dignity is often referred to as human rights education, which is within the umbrella we call peace education. In peace education, one of the central concerns is the promotion of human dignity and wellbeing because of the conviction that this is a foundation for peace

2.     Challenging Prejudice and Building Tolerance

Peace education develops the patience to cope with different problem.

3.     Promoting Nonviolence

Nonviolence or ahimsa is the refusal to do harm to other humans as life is sacred and is an absolute value. It is anchored in the belief that humans have the potential to change.

4.     Challenging the War System

If wars begin in the minds of men, then it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.” Peace education is one concrete pathway to challenge war. “Peace education seeks to develop a global perspective on the problems and an understanding that humans are a single species”  

Instill a desire for peace and to detest war and violence understand the meaning of co-existence. Reduce differences between people of various states in India and other countries. Accept each other’s religion.

It should mean not only absence of war, but violence in all forms such as conflict, threat to life, social degradation, discrimination, oppression, exploitation, poverty, injustice and so on. Peace cannot be built as long as violent social structures exist in society.

5.     Resolving and Transforming Conflict

Our mind always is in the state of what will have to do or not in problematic situation so there is need to implement peace education.

Peace education promotes the knowledge, skills and attitudes to help people prevent conflict occurring, resolve conflicts peacefully, or create conditions for peace

9.       Inner peace is peace with self. One, ‘whose mind remains calm in the middle of               sorrows, whose thirst for pleasure has altogether disappeared, and who is free from         passion, fear and anger’ is said to have achieved inner peace.

For example, harmony and peace with oneself, good health, and absence of inner conflicts, joy, sense of freedom, insight, spiritual peace, feelings of kindness, compassion, and content, appreciation of art.

 

 

Peace is the eradication of poverty.

It is the economic wellbeingness of people Politics: Peace is the outcome of democracy. Peace results from good governance (power) Anti-military: Stop war and there is peace Law: Peace is law and order Social harmony: Resolve conflicts between diverse groups. Integrate such groups together through fair distribution of justice

Develop Social peace is ‘learning to live together

peace between man and man, harmony arising from human relationships at all levels, conflict compromise and resolution, love, friendship, unity, mutual understanding, acceptance, co-operation, brotherhood, tolerance of differences, democracy, community-building, human rights, morality.

To help develop knowledge and understanding of:

•World Heritage sites as a testimony of peace, human rights and democracy,

 •The importance of racial non-discrimination, tolerance and respect for all people and their cultures. Knowledge

 •Could focus on value foundations for personality formation

 •Development of social skills necessary to live together in harmony.

•To enable students to understand the value-foundations of peace.

•The need to promote skills for the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

 •Facilitate socialization through participation in interactive and cooperative learning activities

    Now a day we are living in the digital era and many parts of the world, civil society suffers because of situations of violent conflicts and war. 

    It is important to inculcate and recognize the crucial role of education in contributing to building a culture of peace. A culture of peace and non-violence goes to the substance of fundamental human rights of the present era.

Meaning of the peace Education:

The highest form of objective for any education is inculcating peace and it is an essential value to be cherished by every individual. 

The father and mother is the first teacher to their children and peace is nurtured in the family. The peace nurtured at home again enhanced at school.

Peace is a broad concept with practical and spiritual connotations.

It can imply a state of inner calm or end of conflict. “Peace is what you think it is (or wants it to be).

 Peace has been understood to mean the absence of conflict or violence and conversely as the presence of states of mind and of society such as harmony, accord, security and understanding.

Peace education is a planning strategy of eliminating the conflicts and violence caused by in justice, inequality and human rights, violations, and implementing the ways and means of reducing the same through appropriate teaching and learning tactics by means of producing responsible global citizen to attain and spread the peace in the world. Therefore peace education is a goal of education.

Definition of the Peace Education:

There is no universally accepted definition for Peace Education. There is good number of definitions available on the basis of different perceptions and approaches. Some of the definitions given by eminent educationists are given below:

Webster defines peace “as a state of quiet or tranquility, freedom from disturbance or agitation, calm repose”.

According to Albert EinsteinPeace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, of law, of order – in short, of government.

CRAFT IN ART


MEANING: - Craft is a physical part or it can be said a material. Craft in art can be defined as a material or thing that is designed to show beauty, expression and feelings.

Representations of Art through craft work or material that is called as Craft in Art.

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF CRAFT IN ART

1.    It is the work of skill.

2.    It is made up of different things.

3.    Different expression can be found from different craft.

4.    It is made for decorative and economic purpose.

5.    It requires training.

6.    It is tangible.

7.    It can be easily duplicated.

8.    It originates from the mind.

9.    It is a result of required skill and experience.

10. It attracts people on physical level.


TYPES OF CRAFT FOR REPRESENTATION OF ART

GLASS CRAFT.

Refers to individual works of art that are wholly made of glass.

TEXTILE CRAFT-

Refers to use of fiber working such as weaving, needle work, and knitting.

FLOWER CRAFTS

Refers to work of flowers in creative arrangement.

LEATHER WORK:

Leather carving is the process of giving a three-dimensional appearance to leather craft objects or works of art by cutting and stamping the surface.

PAPER CRAFT:

It is the collection of crafts using paper.

EMBROIDERY:

It is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials.

WOOD CARVING.

Wood carving is a form of woodworking by means of a cutting tool (knife) in one hand or a chisel by two hands or with one hand on a chisel and one hand on a mallet, resulting in a wooden figure or figurine, or in the sculptural ornamentation of a wooden object.

CARPENTRY

Carpentry is a skilled trade and a craft in which the primary work performed is the cutting, shaping and installation of building materials during the construction of buildings, ships, timber bridges, concrete form work, etc.


STONE CRAVING

Stone craving is an activity where pieces of rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of stone.

BLACKSMITHING

Creates objects from wrought iron, steel, metals using tools.

CONCLUSION

It is part and parcel of art because that art gets its structure through craft. So most of in our environment we use craft in art.

MEANING

Aesthetics is a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty.

Art is a diverse range of human activities involving the creation of visual, auditory or performing artifacts (artworks), which express the creator's imaginationconceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

ETYMOLOGICAL MEANING

He word aesthetic is derived from the Greek aisthetikos” means sensitive, sentient, pertaining to sense perception"

The term “art” is related to the Latin word “ars” meaningart, skill, or craft.

PHILOSOPHICAL CONNOTATIONS

Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy concerned with the nature and of artbeauty and good taste. It has also been defined as "critical reflection on art,

It deals with different questions

What is beauty?

What makes something beauty?

What is art?

What is difference good art and bad art?

What is value of art?

Art is a documented expression of a sentiment being through on an accessible medium so that one can view, hear or experience it. Art is created when an artist creates a beautiful object, or produces a stimulating experience. in one word it can be said art is the mirror on which aesthetics is reflected.

Nature /characteristics 

There are basically three characteristics of aesthetics object

Fascination with an aesthetic objects (high arousal and attention):

              There shows strong interest with beautiful object that draws one’s focus.

 Appraisal of the symbolic reality of an object (high cognitive engagement)

             It helps ones to judge and evaluate the object.

And a strong feeling of unity with the object of aesthetic.

             It creates a sense of attachment to the object

ART CHARACTERISTICS

It is based on abstract concepts.

It emphasizes the expressions of the self and emotions.

Different colour used in it to beautify.

It is the expression feelings, thoughts, emotion.

It can be presented through craft.

Types

Aesthetics deals with aesthetics design

So it is of three types

Visual aesthetics-It is as if the light that reflects from the beautiful design acts as a magnet for our eyes

Visual aesthetics have these key elements: Color, Shape, Pattern, Line, Texture, Visual weight, Balance, Scale, Proximity and Movement. Using these elements well will help us achieve good visual aesthetics

Sound aesthetics –it is dealt with beautifulness of sound. That may its Loudness, Pitch, Beat, Repetition, Melody, Pattern and Noise

Material aesthetics-Material aesthetics are especially important for physical products. Material aesthetics key elements are: Texture, Shape, Weight, Comfort, Temperature, Vibration and Sharpness

Art is of basically two types

Visual Arts

Visual Art is a form of Art where one can see.

An artist uses paper, canvas, and clay, metal, paint etc. which can be moulded or transformed to create some physical or art object.

Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Photography, Filmmaking, Computer Art, Plastic Art, Architect etc...

 

Performing Arts

 Performing arts is a form of art where artists use their voices and bodies to convey message in relation to convey artistic expression.

The basics of all performing arts are Listening, Viewing, Imbibing, Imitating, Exploring, Expressing, and Performing etc. When we see or practically do a dance, music or drama performance all our sensory motors awaken as we spontaneously indulge in all the above traits.

Aesthetic objectives:

It deals with making or framing a goal to embellish thing or the work of art eternal, unifying with different character

 

Aesthetic judgments

Linguistic expression of our experience and opinion concerning a certain object.

It relies in our intellectual emotional level

It is critical appreciation of an object that may be an art, painting, beautiful place etc

It is influenced by cultural taste and various background and education.

Criticisms:-

It deals with the merits and demerits of a particular works of art.

Constituents of Art

The three basic constituents of a work of art, and they are wed in a way that is inseparable. In general,

Art is closely related to life –it is all around us. We are surrounded by objects of arts. It can make every subject more interesting, taking children way from the routine textbook learning.

In our locality we can discover different types of art forms. Namely

Music –folk music or traditional music, classical music etc.

Dance –cultural dance

Theater

Puppetry –string puppet, rod puppet

Model making-working model, still model, 3D Model, 2D model

Pottery

Drawing

Painting etc.

IMPORTANCE OF LOCAL ART FORMS:

1.     Local Art originating among the people of religion reflecting their traditional culture.

2.     It reflects traditional art forms of diverse community groups that may be tribal, occupational, religious, and geographical.

One of the local art form is FOLK ART

3.     FOLK ART is an expression of the world’s traditional cultures.

4.     FOLK ART is rooted in traditions that come from community and culture – expressing cultural identity by conveying shared community values and aesthetics. 

5.     FOLK ART encompasses a range of utilitarian and decorative media, including cloth, wood, paper, clay, metal and more. FOLK ART is made by individuals, whose creative skills convey their community’s authentic cultural identity,

6.     IMPROVISED MATERIALS:

With the different unnecessary thing from our locality we can make useful teaching aids .which are the art forms. That can be integrated to teaching practices.

E.g. replacing D.N.A. models with stripped cardboard for illustration in teaching genetics

Believed to be originated in the early 12th-century, Pattachitra is an icon painting which makes it one of the most popular living art forms in India. People in Odisha can be seen practicing it daily.

Palm leaf paintings

From the days when communication was done through writing, the Palm Leaf Painting or locally known as Talapatra Chitra is an ancient form of art in Odisha. This is one of the art forms in the state which are considered sacred.

Jhoti chita, muruja

A traditional Oriya art which is presented on the floor and walls is Jhoti Chita. Extremely popular in the rural areas, Jhoti is different from line art and involves line art using a white coloured liquid paste of rice or pithau.

Andhra Pradesh is famous all over for this form of art. The major forms are Srikalahasthi from Chittoor district, and Machilipatnam Kalamkari of Krishna district.

Kuchipudi

Kuchipudi is the traditional dance of this state. Kuchelapuri is a small village in Andhra Pradesh. In 300 BC or earlier, this art form started as a way for living for many. It was performed by male Brahmins.

Just like any other Indian dances, it is a mixture of expression and music. Thalam, Violin, Surpeti, Tanpura and many other musical instruments would be played while dancing. It is a very vivid and elegant dance form to watch.

Dancers sometime deliver certain dialogues during the dance too. Usually Indian mythological stories would be showcased with this dance form.

Artists from Madhubani district of Bihar became famous for making masks with hand-painted Madhubani motifs. The women of the village drew these paintings on the walls of their dwelling, as a demonstration of their feelings, hopes, and ideas.

Tikuli Art

This is an intricate art made by painting enamel on hardboard and embellished by gold foil and crystals. 

It is inspired by the ‘bindi’ or ‘tikli’ worn by Indian women and has been a feature of Bihar’s art landscape for over 800 years.

 In the olden days, ladies of the upper class used to wear bindis made out of blown glass and embedded with gems.

Clay art has an indigenous history in West Bengal. Ghurni of Nadia district is very popular for making the clay idols. West Bengal has an ancient heritage of dolls. Dolls have been customarily crafted by women from the potter communities. Dolls made of soft clay and fired-clay is available all over West Bengal.
